Colac’s run-down old velodrome will receive a much-needed makeover thanks to the Federal Government.
The government this week announced $320,000 for upgrades to the Colac Regional Velodrome at Elliminyt Recreation Reserve, ticking the first box on the reserve’s $5.2-million master plan.
Wannon MP Dan Tehan met with Colac Otway Shire Council, recreation reserve users and key community stakeholders on Wednesday night to commit the cash, which will fully fund resurfacing of the velodrome as well as drainage works to keep the racing track “first-class for as long as possible”.
“I’m very excited to see this significant funding going towards securing the future for such a busy and important regional facility,” Mr Tehan said.
“The velodrome is badly in need of repair. It is a hub for regional cycling competitions, and as such, funding for the velodrome would be to the benefit of cyclists from all over south-west Victoria.
“It’s terrific to be able to announce it, it’s real money, and it’s in the budget so we can get cracking straight away.”
Mr Tehan said there would be “more to come”.
