Hair-raising plan getting attention

Matt Noseda is closer to his $10,000 fundraising target thanks to a boost of support from the Apollo Bay community. He will lop off his iconic dreadlocks when he reaches his goal and donate the funds to Beyond Blue, a charity supporting mental health issues.

The Apollo Bay community has thrown its support, and its dollars, behind the cause of one of its favourite sons.

The Bay’s Matt Noseda has pledged to shave off his iconic nine-year-old dreadlocks only when he reaches a $10,000 fundraising target for mental health non-profit Beyond Blue, and is now more than one third of the way there thanks to a rush of donations from the coastal community, including a $1000 donation from a local bakery.

Matt said he had received an “awesome” response to the campaign locally, with most of the 41 donors so far hailing from around the town.

“It’s an awesome start to the campaign; the community down in Apollo Bay really look after each other so I wasn’t too worried about setting such a high target. I was never in doubt that we would raise a lot of money in Apollo Bay – everyone is always willing to put in and help,” Matt said.

He said he had re-shared his fundraising page on social media to encourage more people to donate, and had more plans to promote the fundraiser and mental health around the community.
