Lorne premiership footballer Joel Tipping will miss this weekend’s Easter clash as he prepares to play in a prestigious Anzac Day clash at the Adelaide Oval.
The qualified firefighter has earned selection to represent an Australian Combined Emergency Services football side in this year’s Anzac Day Challenge.
The match, which acts as a curtain-raiser for an AFL clash between Port Adelaide and North Melbourne, pits Australia’s top police, fire and ambulance footballers against an Australian Defence Force All Star team.
Tipping said he was eager to get involved in the match after a fractured elbow forced him to miss the ACES’ 27-point win last year.
Players apply to get involved in the annual clash, sending in their football resume to selectors.
With four premierships and 150 senior games at Lorne to his name, Tipping has earned selection the past two years.
“I was set to play in it last year but I fractured my elbow in the Easter game against Birre, but I still went over for the game and helped run the bench,” he said.
