Colac community market continues to grow

A Colac community market is fast becoming a standout social outing for its stallholders and visitors.

Rotary Club of Colac’s Community Market returns on Sunday.

Market spokesperson Serge Beani said they wanted to wind back the clock to a time when markets were great big community gatherings, and were on track to do that with thousands of visitors of all ages descending on Colac Showgrounds for the event each month.

“The big country markets always used to be a strong tradition – we really want to bring that back,” Serge said.

“It’s a great opportunity to come and enjoy each other’s company. Young kids, old kids, all ages; people don’t necessarily even have to buy anything, but they come just to be a part of it and see what is going on.”

He said organisers wanted to introduce children’s competitions, such as a pet and owner lookalike competition, and expand on the more than 75 stalls already at the market.

The Community Market is open at the Colac Showgrounds on Sunday from 9am to 2pm. “We have a lot of ideas about where we can go, what we can help with,” he said.
