Decision day looms for Pennyroyal Hall

Pennyroyal Hall committee members Katrine Juleff, Sharron Swaneveld and Jen Bush hope the future of the hall will become clearer when Colac Otway Shire Council considers it at this week’s council meeting.

Pennyroyal’s hall committee hopes to move be a step closer to restoring the beloved hall when Colac Otway Shire Council considers the building’s future this week.

The future of the Pennyroyal Hall is an item in this Wednesday’s council meeting agenda, with councillors to consider two options “considered plausible for retaining the building with insignificant financial commitment from council”.

In the meeting agenda, the recommendation for the hall’s future is that the Pennyroyal Hall Committee become the owner of the hall.

The recommendation also proposes that the council waives rates on the property for a 10-year period after the ownership change; the council pays for insurance for the hall on an ongoing basis; and that the council gives the committee $35,000 in lieu of demolition works to the hall and $10,000 in lieu of connecting underground power to the hall.
