Former Apollo Bay midfielder Dion Lawson appears likely to return for the Hawks this weekend, after his current club announced today it would pull its senior football teams for the remainder of the year.
Lawson crossed to Western Region Football League club Manor Lakes to take on the senior coaching role this year, but the club announced today it had officially withdrawn its senior and reserves football teams from the competition for the remainder of the 2019 season.
The Storm revealed in the past fortnight that it was likely to withdraw, but the league had been attempting to keep them involved until today’s official announcement.
“With on-field results not necessarily going our way, a significant injury count and some mounting challenges in terms of our income versus outgoings, the club has made this difficult decision,” Manor Lakes club president Shane White said in a league statement.
The Manor Lakes players had been left in limbo in the lead-up to Sunday’s clearance deadline, and Lawson had applied for a clearance back to Apollo Bay in fear of being left without a club next week.
With the Storm’s football sides officially folding, it appears likely that Lawson will return for the Hawks.
