Coaching the focus for recovering Cat

Colac Imperials assistant coach Stewy McCann, left, has joined teammate Tom Prascevic on the sidelines.

Colac Imperials jet Stewy McCann says he will focus on his coaching after learning his lacerated kidney would sideline him for the remainder of the season.

The Imps’ assistant coach returned home yesterday after spending three nights in a Geelong hospital following the injury in the Imps’ loss to Alvie on Saturday.

It wasn’t until he got home that night that he realised something was wrong, making a trip to hospital at 11.30pm.

“I copped a hit in my lower back and lacerated my kidney,” McCann said.

“I wasn’t really able to pinpoint the moment it happened, I’d copped a couple of hits in the back and I’m normally pretty sore after footy anyway,” he said.

“I didn’t think too much of it until later that night, when I thought I better go in to hospital.”

Saturday’s clash was the second time McCann has lacerated a kidney, first suffering the injury while playing junior football for the Colac Tigers in 2015.
