Cool contribution for Foodshare

Colac and District Foodshare treasurer Paul Kennedy accepted a $3000 donation from Colac Rotary Club president Michael Harrison to help fund a new freezer to preserve food donations for needy people.

Colac and District Foodshare will use donations from Colac Rotary Club and Colac Otway Shire Council to buy a new industrial freezer.

The Rotary Club donated $3000 raised through its own events to help Foodshare upgrade its Bath Street facility.

Foodshare’s old freezer broke down before Christmas and the group hadn’t found the money to replace it.

Foodshare treasurer Paul Kennedy said the organisation had to turn away frozen donations in recent months, without anywhere to store the items.
Its members had to get creative in the circumstances.

“We got a call from Woolies, they had 400 to 500 kilos of meat that was surplus to requirements, but we had nowhere to put it,” Mr Kennedy said.
