Homegrown hoopsters to lead Colac Kookas

Homegrown basketballer Nathan Lemke, right, will coach the Colac Kookas in 2019-20. Fellow product Jordan Lingard, left, will be Lemke’s assistant coach.

Two local basketball products will bring a fresh approach to basketball in Colac in a bid to return the Colac Kookas to the Country Basketball League finals.

Nathan Lemke is the new coach of the Kookas’ senior men’s team, with fellow Colac player Jordan Lingard to be his assistant.

The two big men were the star players for the Kookas last season. Lemke was the team’s MVP after leading the CBL south-west region with 26.5 points per game, while Lingard was voted the team’s next best.

The Kookas finished just outside the finals in 2018-19 as they were unable to back up their grand final win in 2018 following a host of personnel changes.

Lemke and Lingard made their returns to their home town for the start of last season after stints in the United States playing in the college basketball system.
