Long-serving Colac District Cricket Association umpire Steve Millar will take the reins as chairman of the association’s board for the upcoming season.
Association members elected Millar at Monday night’s annual general meeting.
Millar said he was enthusiastic about helping the game succeed in the Colac district and that his independence from clubs would ensure he acted for the greater good of cricket in the region.
“The bottom line is I want to give something back to cricket,” he said.
“I’m unattached and unaffiliated, I’ve got no link to any club down here, so I think it’s a good thing that someone independent of all the clubs stands for
The presidency will be Millar’s first experience bearing office for a cricket association, but he said his passion for the sport and previous involvement on other committees would hold him in good stead.
“I know the game, I understand the game. You’ve got to have a passion for it,” he said.
“As long as you’re surrounded by competent people, which I totally believe I am, and you can be a people manager, you can succeed.”
