Comeback for Dolphins legend

Champion Lorne footballer Lee Hollmer has snuck in for his first senior game since the Dolphins’ 2013 grand final win.

The key-position player announced his retirement that day, but has notched up five reserves games this season before stepping into the seniors for his first game alongside his brother Jack since the 2000s.

Fellow Hollmer brothers Kyall, injured, and Lewie, managed, missed the Dolphins’ 17.15 (117) to 8.4 (52) win over Simpson, which ended the Tigers’ finals aspirations.

Lorne skipper Sean Smartt said Lee impressed in his return to the senior line-up.

“He was just filling a spot, but he definitely didn’t look out of place,” he said.

“He’s qualified in the reserves and he and Shielsy (assistant coach Brock Shiels) still train every Thursday night so you never know.”

Smartt said the Dolphins were wary of Simpson heading into Saturday’s clash, but responded with a six-goals-to-one opening term.
