Soccer club calls on players for FIFA tournament

Colac Otway’s Georgia Roache and Sohail Ali are preparing for a soccer challenge of a different kind when the club hosts a video game night.

Colac Otway Rovers are on the hunt for soccer stars of another kind.

The club is hosting an event for the popular soccer video game FIFA 19, inviting gamers, young and old, to meet at Colac’s PTB on August 17.

Rovers president Tom Davis said he hoped the event could also help promote the sole Colac district soccer club’s brand and attract potential new players.

The Rovers had a tough weekend on the field, with the Division Three side losing 0-5 to Armstrong Creek, while the under-14 team had a 1-10 defeat at the hands of Geelong Rangers.

“There’s a bit of interest so we’ll see how it goes,” Davis said ahead of the games night.

“There’s a bit of an objective to it as well, we’re trying to think of different fundraising ideas and ways to get new people to join the club.”

Davis said the Rovers’ senior team experimented during its match against Armstrong Creek with finals not on the horizon in 2019.
