Swans produce best season in five years

Alvie’s Morgan Eldridge, pictured alongside South’s Kate Mulgrew, led the Swans to an unbeaten home-and-away season in her first year as coach.

Alvie could prove hard to stop in finals after the club became the first Colac district A Grade netball side to go through a season undefeated in five years.

The Swans capped off a perfect home-and-away season with a timely 54-39 win against second-placed South Colac in Saturday’s final-round clash.

Colac Imperials was the last team to go through a campaign unbeaten in 2014, before the Cats went on to claim a hat-trick of premierships during a dominant era of top-grade netball.

First-year Swans coach Morgan Eldridge said she was proud of her side’s performances this season, but she said her players remained focused on the ultimate prize in about a month’s time.

“It’s a good effort and we’re pretty proud, but this is just the start of it really,” she said.

Eldridge said the Roos, led by star netballers Edwina Parker, Ally Harrington and Janelle Monaghan, made it tough for her players on Saturday.
