Two Birregurra football premiership heroes will reunite at City United this cricket season.
The Knights have welcomed Josh Weatherhead back to the club, while impressive all-rounder Jack Melican has found a new home after Birregurra stepped away from Division One cricket this summer.
Weatherhead and Melican are close mates who started their football careers together at Birregurra, before joining the Geelong league in recent seasons.
Weatherhead crossed to Newtown and Chilwell, while Melican has spent three seasons with the Colac Tigers.
Melican has a Division One century and three scores of 50-plus-runs next to his name, and has taken 85 wickets in the top grade.
Weatherhead last played at the Knights in 2015-16, but is a proven performer in top flight cricket after posting a triple-figure score three seasons ago.
City officials confirmed Melican’s Colac football teammates Kane Leersen and Kaden Newton had committed to more cricket this summer, while former Apollo Bay junior Dustin Walters has joined the club.
Captain Sam Cardinal said the recruits were timely for City, which enters the season without reigning league medallist Dylan Slater and Vic Country under-17 representative Josh Garner, after the pair crossed to Geelong in the Premier ranks.
