Exciting Colac women’s cricket product Aanliya Cheeranbenoy made a stunning debut for Geelong yesterday.

The 14-year-old all-rounder took 2-1 from her four overs in a Twenty20 game against Mt Martha before the Herald went to print.

Cheeranbenoy’s first game for the Cats continued her rapid rise in cricket this year.

She earned Barwon Rockettes under-17 selection and was rushed into Vic Country’s under-15 initial squad after dominating for City United in the CDCA Girls’ inaugural season last summer.

Geelong captain Helen Jones said the club was eager to help Cheeranbenoy develop her cricket in a state-wide female competition.

Jones also mentors Cheeranbenoy and fellow Colac district product and Geelong cricketer Sophie Walker in the Rockettes’ representative side for the Youth Premier League.
