Borrack brings home the gold

St Mary’s Primary School pupil Ellinor Borrack won two gold medals at the School Sports Victoria State Championship. Ellinor crossed the line first in the 1500 and 800-metre running events at the event in Melbourne to continue the promising start to her athletics career.

Colac’s Ellinor Borrack has capped off her primary school athletics journey with two gold medals at state championships.

Ellinor, 12, represented St Mary’s Primary School at the School Sports Victoria State Championship in Melbourne, bringing home the gold in the 800-metre and 1500-metre events.

The medal haul follows her bronze medal in the 800 metres at the same event last year.

Her mother Hege Eier said the wins capped off a big year for the Grade Six pupil.

“Normally she would progress to nationals but they had them earlier this year, because they were going to be in Darwin and it would be too hot over summer,” she said.

Borrack reached the finals in her second appearance at the School Sport Australia Track and Field Championship in September.

“She tried out for the nationals and was seventh in the 800 and eighth in the 1500, so she’s had a very good year,” Eier said.
