Colac set to unveil festive decorations

St Mary’s Catholic Primary School students Armi Black, Noah Gray, Lachie Darcy and Isabella Billing decorate a timber tree which will bring the Christmas spirit to Colac. Local businesses donated materials for the faux fir trees, before Colac Otway Shire Council assembled and delivered them to local schools for the ornate finishes. The trees will adorn Colac’s Memorial Square before December 1. See page 3 for more on Colac Otway’s Christmas decorations.

It’s about to start feeling a lot like Christmas in Colac Otway Shire.

Colac Otway Shire Council and community groups will begin unveiling Christmas decorations this week, following a big team effort to dress up Colac and Apollo Bay in time for the festive season.

The council will roll out its new Christmas banners designed by local artist Sue Tate and decorated with help from 13 schools across the shire.

Colac Otway mayor Jason Schram said the decorations were “fantastic” and would help Colac and district residents and visitors warm to the spirit of Christmas.

“The banners this year are Australiana themed, and a summer theme really suits the area,” he said.

“And to have the locals involved in donations, like at Apollo Bay, it just shows the true spirit of Christmas.”

Colac’s decorations will also feature timber Christmas trees in Memorial Square, which Cr Schram said would show that “the meaning of Christmas was well and truly alive in Colac”.
