Barongarook product Brooke Allan says a daunting first experience with Collingwood at the elite level inspired her to reach new heights with her netball ahead of the 2020 season.
The Magpies announced this week that Allan would return for a second season as one of the Suncorp Super Netball club’s four training partners.
Allan had a successful debut season with the Magpies as a rookie, helping the club’s feeder team Tasmania secure a bronze medal in the Australian Netball League.
The talented defender finished runner-up in Tasmania’s best-and-fairest award and was its player of the finals series, while she also sat on the bench for Collingwood during a Super Netball clash against Adelaide in August.
Allan said she had increased her workload at the club to ensure she was ready if another opportunity to suit up for the Magpies arose next year.
“When I got called up it was definitely an eye-opener, I didn’t feel like I was ready for it, obviously they thought I was, but if I was put on I didn’t know if I’d be up for it,” she said.
“I’ve tried to make a focus of trying to get to every training I can be at.
“Last year they said they wanted me there for Wednesday nights and if you can come to the other ones it’s great, but if you can’t don’t worry too much.
“But this year the plan is to get to as many extra sessions as I can.”
Allan said she was confident she would earn another season at the Magpies after positive feedback from the coaching staff following her debut year.
