Selection shock for Swan

Alvie cricketer Jensen Monaghan, 16, has earned a spot in the Colac district’s initial senior interleague squad to continue the promising start to his career.

He has already ticked off featuring in a Division One cricket grand final and now 16-year-old Alvie rising star Jensen Monaghan has his sights on earning a senior representative cap.

The impressive young spinner continued the promising start to his career after securing a spot in the CDCA’s initial 16-man squad for its interleague clash with the Bellarine Peninsula association at Warrion next Sunday.

Monaghan will train alongside some of the district’s best cricketers on Wednesday night, under the guidance of Bill Johnston Medallist Grant Brauer and former Premier cricketer Locky Inglis.

The Trinity College Colac Year 10 student said he was thrilled to get an opportunity to press his case for higher honours at such a young age.

“I’m pretty stoked,” Monaghan said.

“I’ve always enjoyed going to Country Week and playing rep cricket as a junior, and I loved going to Bendigo last season.
