Treatment protecting iconic elms

Colac Otway Shire Council’s elm leaf beetle treatment should protect Colac’s elm trees across the summer. Colac’s Danielle Clegg and daughters Ariyah and Tarni took time out to enjoy the foliage in Colac’s Memorial Square this week.

Colac’s iconic elm trees will hopefully remain beetle-free this summer thanks to a round of treatment.

Colac Otway Shire Council has completed this year’s round of treatment to prevent the spread of elm leaf beetles.

The invasive beetle feeds on leaves and can completely defoliate mature trees.

The beetles are a problem in the shire, but treatments in the past have been successful, and the council completed its latest round of treatment across September and October.
