Fire-hit Kempsey thankful for help

The Colac and district community donated four full trucks’ worth of hay for fire-affected farmers at Kempsey, New South Wales. The hay arrived on Monday.

“They have done something truly amazing.”

That’s how the fire-worn Kempsey community in New South Wales has welcomed hay donated by Colac and district farmers and volunteers.

Four full trucks of hay arrived at Kempsey on Monday afternoon, and Kempsey Showground co-ordinator Lisa Powesland said the fodder would be a godsend for bushfire-stricken farmers in the region.

“It’s actually been truly an amazing thing – our emergency fodder process wound down as of last week so the timing of having this fodder turn up now is going to make an amazing difference to the people in our valley,” Lisa said.

“We’re not only still in crisis but now also moving into recovery. All the big cattle stations have emergency fodder measures, but we have smaller farming properties that we just haven’t been able to get to yet, so we’re hoping this will reach them.”
