Cats coach praises centurion

Colac West rising star Will Ruddell, who has joined Victorian Premier Cricket club Geelong in 2019-20, made a century for the CDCA on Monday at the Warrnambool under-17 Country Week campaign.

Geelong co-coach Matt Gunther says promising Colac district cricketer Will Ruddell’s century at junior Country Week was reward for his work ethic during his debut season in the Premier ranks.

Ruddell, who joined the Cats this summer, is featuring in the Colac district under-17 side at this week’s representative carnival at Warrnambool.

The Colac West cricketer made 108 as the CDCA secured a convincing win against the hosts during the series opener on Monday.

Ruddell dominated the Colac district under-17 competition last season, claiming the batting and league best-and-fairest awards, while he secured his spot at the top of West’s order in Division One cricket as a 15-year-old.

The classy left-hander crossed to Geelong to play alongside West teammate Sam Mulgrew this season.

Ruddell has played just the three games, starting the 2019-20 campaign at West, before he debuted in the fourths in round six and immediately impressed with a team-high 38 runs against Fitzroy-Doncaster.
