Kookas end streak to boost title hopes

Colac Kookas youngster Matthew Lloyd, right, played his 50th game in the club’s away win against Millicent Magic on Saturday.

Colac Kookas basketballers have ended their four-game losing streak in a major boost for the club’s title hopes this season.

The Kookas made the long trek across the South Australian border to take on Millicent in a must-win match for the club, which is in a battle with Portland to finish second in its conference and book a semi-final spot.

Colac won the clash, 75-61, to celebrate young gun Matthew Lloyd’s 50th club game in style.

Lloyd finished with 12 points and was among a host of contributors for the visiting Kookas, who made the trip interstate with just seven players.

Coach Nathan Lemke, who scored a team-high 20 points, said his players united to land the club its first Country Basketball League win since November 30.
