Council and state mired in contamination dispute

DEADLOCK: The State Government and Surf Coast Shire Council are both trying to dodge liability for contaminated land at Winchelsea Common ahead of new environment laws that take effect next week. Areas of the common have remained fenced off since 2012.

Surf Coast Shire Council and the Victorian Government are at a stalemate over lead-poisoned land at Winchelsea Common, with each party insisting that the other is responsible for its management.
