South-west commuters are advised that V-Line is set to “gradually resume services” from midday today following the Telstra outage.
Crews have been conducting testing of train radio communications, with the Australian Rail Track Corporation advising rail operators using the National Train Communications System that it was safe to begin operating trains.
V-Line said before resuming operations, officials completed their own testing and operational checks to make sure that communications between network controllers and train crews were “stable, continuous and reliable”.
“These tests were successful and confirmed that critical communications systems are operating at the level required for the safe operation of trains across the network,” V-Line said.
“V-Line is now implementing a staged return of services across the network, with the aim of restoring services this afternoon, in time for the peak.
