A Forrest woman’s car caught fire on Birregurra-Forrest Road near Barwon Downs on Wednesday afternoon.

A FORREST woman’s vehicle is “a total write off” after it caught fire after breaking down near Barwon Downs.

The woman’s gold Holden Astra broke down about five kilometres north of Barwon Downs on Birregurra-Forrest Road.

The vehicle caught fire after roadside assistance technicians found a mechanical fault in the vehicle’s engine bay.

The woman was the sole occupant inside the vehicle and was uninjured in the fire.

CFA Barwon Downs captain brigade captain Gavin Brien said the unit was called to put out the fire on Wednesday at 1.30pm.

CFA brigades from Birregurra and Deans Marsh also attended the scene.

“The RACV came about an hour after it broke down and noticed some flames under the vehicle,” Mr Brien said.

“They were unable to put it out which is where they called for assistance.”

“The car is a total write off; the engine bay was totally engulfed; the passenger compartment was damaged but not alight.”

Mr Brien said the woman’s son also attended to help his mother at the scene.

Colac Highway Patrol assisted with traffic management on Birregurra-Forrest Road after the fire.
