Apples at core of festival

Gellibrand organic apple farmer Julie Farquhar loads her car with apples fresh from Glen Loch Apple Farm.

GELLIBRAND organic apple farmer Julie Farquhar will showcase the world of apples this weekend.

Ms Farquhar of Glen Loch Apple Farm will be at Gellibrand River Store to celebrate the start of the apple season on Sunday.

Visitors can indulge in new-season organic apples as well as apple cider, apple pie and other apple-related treats.

Ms Farquhar said she hoped the season launch would open people’s eyes to the different varieties of apples available.

The celebration will also feature Barongarook winery and brewery Otway Estate’s latest batch of apple cider, produced with apples from Glen Loch Apple Farm.

“This is the first time I’ve provided the apples to Otway Estate for their cider and it’s a great partnership,” Ms Farquhar said.

The apple season launch begins at Gellibrand River Store at 11am and will include an apple pie baking competition and live music.
