Avid theatregoers laughed, gasped and cheered as they received a glimpse of the coming year for theatre in Colac.

Colac Otway Performing Arts and Cultural Centre launched its 2011 season on Saturday night, attracting a crowd of more than 200 people.

The season preview included live performances from professional groups and The Colac Players, as well as recorded excerpts from shows.

The revelations during the preview brought positive reactions from the audience, including applause, laughter and foot tapping.

The season will have 23 shows, ranging from comedy and musicals, to dramas, circus acts and a host of children’s performances.

COPACC has another six shows in its morning music season this year.

COPACC manager Karen Patterson said she was pleased with the launch.

“We’ve had a great roll up,” Ms Patterson said.

“The early feedback is extremely positive,” she said.

Audience members stayed at COPACC after the launch for drinks and supper with the performers, and live music from The Gram-O-Phonie Brothers.

Upcoming shows at COPACC include The Colac Players’ season of Robin Hood The Musical on February 24 to 27, and Hit Productions’ show Furiously Fertile on February 28.
