Teens face car theft charges

Police have charged three Camperdown teenagers after car thefts in Colac.

POLICE have arrested three Camperdown teenagers after a spate of car thefts in Colac.

Colac police alleged the teenagers, all under 18 years old, travelled to Colac and stole four cars from the city three weeks ago.

Each vehicle was unlocked or the keys were inside.

Detective Sergeant Peter Griffiths of Colac Criminal Investigation Unit said the trio had stolen the cars and taken them on a joy-ride.

“They’ve driven, unlicensed, backwards and fourth between Colac and Camperdown and we’ve traced them back to Camperdown and recovered the vehicles,” Det Sgt Griffiths said.

“Those kids will be facing court at a later date,” he said.

Police had thought a stolen Mitsubishi Pajero was linked to the other four thefts but now believe it was a separate incident.
