COLAC Otway Rovers remain confident despite coming up against their third Geelong region soccer finals fancy in as many weeks.
Coach Dave Latham said his side had what it took to win its second match of the season when it made the trip to Howard Glover Reserve to meet Barwon Blue on Sunday.
“Barwon have had two big wins against lower-table teams so we’re expecting a tough challenge,” he said.
“But I think we’re good enough if everything clicks.”
The teams will be hungry to get back on the winners’ list, ironically both of them coming off 4-1 losses last weekend.
The Rovers went down against Lara while Barwon Blue lost to Bellarine Sharks.
Latham, who has made a name for himself as a holding midfielder in Colac district soccer, hoped dropping into defence would allow him to improve his on-field leadership.
“If I can shore up the back and make it a little less vulnerable then I’ll be happy,” he said.
Latham said the Rovers had been working hard at training to correct errors that proved costly against Lara last weekend.
“We did a fair bit of work on patience and just being more disciplined in our structure during the week,” he said.
“If we can improve on those areas then we’re in with a shot.”
