COLAC Otway Rovers face their best chance for a return to the winners’ list when they take on Deakin University on Sunday.
The Deakin Ducks will make the trip down the highway to Pirron Yallock Recreation Reserve on the back of a 0-13 loss to Bellarine Sharks.
Rovers coach Dave Latham said the match loomed as a big chance for his young soccer team, which lost to the Sharks by just three goals earlier in the season.
“We’re really keen for it,” he said.
“Normally we’re not too bothered by the result but this time we would really like to come away with a win.”
The Rovers will have plenty of attacking power, with strikers Jayden Tebble, Denis Yardin and Peter Reidy likely to return for the clash.
But the loss of midfielder Peter Knight to knee injury will hurt the side, with Latham expecting to step out of his recent defensive role to fill the void.
Colac Otway will hope to rectify late-game fade-outs that cost it victory against Corio last round, relinquishing a half-time lead.
“A win would be really good for the confidence, we’ll try and make the most of the opportunity and come away with the win,” Latham said.
The Rovers sit two places above the Ducks in 10th spot on Geelong Region’s Division Three soccer competition ladder.
