Its extremely difficult for people who live out in bush fire prone areas – the council should “wake up” and this is coming from some one who knows… i used to live out in kawarren and understand how frustrating it is when you have to spend the entire day (or days) sitting in the hot 35-40 degree weather in the library or just visiting friends. But what if you don’t have any where to go or anyone to put you up??
what if you have no money to go to the cinema or the pool??
when the library and shops close – where do you go then??
These people NEED somewhere safe to go in a crisis like this – PLEASE for their sakes – WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!
Pity those of us driving by had no idea what was going on – next time make the writing on signage readable to drivers going past. To us it looked more like a mad-hatters party than a meeting.
As for high fire danger days? At this time of year every member of the household should have a bag packed and ready to go. All valuables and documents should be assembled and ready to grab as you run out the door. This includes birth certificates, passports (essential id), photos and backup of files on your computer (portable hard drives are perfect for this)
You should already have a plan (or several as backup) for how to get out and where to go. This includes a designated meeting area for everyone if you aren’t all at home.
Don’t rely on the powers-that-be to protect your family.
