THE success of Colac’s community garden has inspired other towns to start similar projects.

Timboon and Simpson residents have visited Colac’s Neighbourhood House to tour its community garden.

Neighbourhood House co-ordinator Julie Barrow said Timboon and District Health Care planned to open two gardens for community use.

“It’s great that we can provide support to other groups planning to start their own gardens and we can create links with other towns,” Ms Barrow said.

“They can see how the garden is set up and the different groups that use it, and that helps them develop their own gardens that suit the town’s needs.”

Ms Barrow said a range of groups had used the garden since it opened more than four years ago.

“We’ve got people from the general community coming here as well as the Neighbourhood House groups, disability groups as well as mental health groups, so it has benefitted a really wide range of people,” she said.

“Hopefully we’ll see it grow and more towns will start their own gardens.”
