Colac man Ron Williams says he travels to Geelong to buy fuel. A litre of unleaded petrol was 16 cents more expensive in Colac than at Geelong this week.

A COLAC man is urging other Colac motorists to travel to Geelong or Winchelsea to buy fuel to avoid “rip offs”.

  1. Filled up with unleaded in Melbourne today. $1.49/L.

I often fill up in Colac when travelling, because it’s cheaper than most parts of Melbourne.

  2. OH ALSO! How many people can afford to ‘make a day of it’ these days? :-/

  3. I agree with Jo. Ya also gotta take it to count that the fuel prices in Geelong and Melbourne fluctuate more than they do hear. And to add to the debate, has the cost of the extra km’s been counted when it come to the other running costs (three and servicing) of the vehicle??? If it was a viable idea to travel, more people (EVERYBODY)would already be doing it.

  4. for Jo- If you travel to Geelong, do shopping, and fill up with fuel and use a shopping fuel docket you’ll save a little more. Yes it’s worth the trip if you make a day of it.

I would like to point out that BP may have made a error in statement. Reliance Petroleum is owned by Centrel Pty Ltd (trading as) which is part of BP as a subsidiary. BP may have a lot more to answer for.

Mr.Williams might find that if every Colac resident followed his example Colac might cease to exist!

  6. ummmmm – where’s the saving when it costs more to travel to another town to get the petrol? You actually use petrol to drive there. Unless you are going to fill a dozen petrol containers as well it’s throwing money away.
Quite apart from not having the two hours to spare to travel to Geelong just for petrol. Spare hour to get petrol from Winchelsea? No i don’t think so.
Impractical and just a little ridiculous. We’re stuck with Colac’s petrol prices, and they know it.
