A WINCHELSEA man was in a critical condition in hospital after two men brutally attacked him at home.

Detective Sergeant Duncan Frame said police were investigating the attack on the 47-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman at their Jackson Street residence.

Det Frame said two men entered the address about 8am yesterday.

“The female has been assaulted by the two males, and sustained a superficial head wound, she’s then fled the premises and the two have then seriously assaulted the male occupant,” he said.

“He’s sustained serious upper body and head injuries, unknown as to how it was sustained whether it was a weapon or pure physical force.

“As a result of that he was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne for treatment.”

A Royal Melbourne Hospital spokeswoman said the man remained in a critical condition when the Colac Herald went to print.

“He’s currently in intensive care, however he is expected to survive,” Det Frame said.

He said paramedics treated and transported the woman to Geelong Hospital.

Forensic police from Melbourne examined the modern home for clues yesterday.

Det Frame said the offenders and the victims knew each other.

“We’re in the process of tracking down these two males,” he said.

“It appears purely they’ve gone to the premises to assault the male,” Det Frame said.

“It’s not a random attack, and we believe the offenders have left the area.”

Det Frame said he hoped Winchelsea residents might be able to assist in the investigation.

“If anyone locally hears whispers or knows anything about it, we’d be willing to hear from them,” he said.
