170 kmh speedster shocks police

Police intercepted a Colac man driving at 170kmh.

A COLAC driver has shocked police after he drove at least 70 kilometres an hour over the speed limit.

Leading Senior Constable Bill Boddington of Beeac police alleged he caught the male driver, 25, at 170 kilometres an hour on the Colac-Ballarat Road at Ondit.

Sen Const Boddington said the man, travelling with a passenger, offered no excuse for driving at the speed.

“Any mistake made at that speed is potentially fatal for the passenger or any other vehicle in the area,” he said.

“It’s the biggest one I’ve had, it’s the first impound I’ve had to do.

“It’s ridiculous.”

Sen Const Boddington said the man would face court for the speeding offence, and would lose his car for at least 30 days.

He said the man would have to surrender his Holden Commodore to Colac Police Station after the alleged offence last Wednesday afternoon.
