PEOPLE new to performing are among 15 actors who will take to the stage for The Colac Players’ latest night of comedy.
Players chairman David McKenzie said members were in the final stages of rehearsals for Doing The Deed… and Other Funny Stuff, a series of four short plays “about getting ahead in life and love”.
“We’re excited about this performance, not least because half the performers are making their stage debuts or are in only their second show,” Mr McKenzie said.
“These include Elizabeth Witomski, who just joined The Colac Players, and Michael Ives, who performed with us once before, in Confusions in 2007,” he said.
“And joining them on stage are amazingly talented and experienced performers like Wayne Cahill and Kay Widdicombe.
“All of the actors live in Colac and district, so most people in the community would know at least one of the performers.”
Mr McKenzie said Doing The Deed, at Colac Otway Performing Arts and Cultural Centre on March 27 to 29, was in the same format as successful shows the players previously performed at the Elliminyt Hall – short comedy plays in a cabaret setting.
Hatsapella will perform music during the show.
“We’ve performed this style of show before and the audience has always responded amazingly,” he said.
“People love being able to enjoy shows from a table, with drinks and nibbles, and being able to sit with friends.
“The short play format works because all four segments pack a punch, are full of laughs, but they’re quite different from each other, meaning there’s plenty of variety and nobody could get bored.”
