Colac Herald advertising manager Jake Veale says he was honoured to be the latest winner of an employee of the month award sponsored by WDEA.

JUMPING at the chance to start a new career with a new company has paid off for Colac’s Jake Veale.

The newly promoted advertising manager at the Colac Herald is the latest winner of Colac and district’s employee of the month award sponsored by WDEA.

Mr Veale shifted from Bulla Dairy Foods to the Herald’s advertising team more than two years ago.

He said knowing people around the Colac district had made his transition into working at the Herald easier.

“I first noticed when I started here that a lot of people knew me or at least knew my grandma, parents or uncles and aunties or just from being a part of the South Colac Sports Club,” he said.

“I guess being born and bred in Colac made it a lot easier meeting new people in business by just introducing myself and having a chat.

“I like getting out and going to chat to people not just about work but about how their weekends were and how many footy tips they got right on the weekend.”

Mr Veale said being in the running for the employee of the year award in October was an honour.

“I obviously feel pretty happy and honoured about winning employee of the month; I was very shocked when I got the phone call to tell me I had won the award,” he said.

“It’s great to hear my clients are pretty happy dealing with me as their advertising rep.”

Colac Herald manager Andrea Graham said Mr Veale was a loyal and valued employee.

“Jake is a very loyal team member and is committed to advancing both our business and his customers’ businesses,” she said.

“His ‘can-do’ approach to all tasks filters through his team and leaves a positive feeling within the department and this in return brings amazing results to our business.”
