The club will mark 50 years of involvement with the appeal, and members have reflected on the total of $1 million raised locally.

Genua, 41, will notch up her 300th senior game when the Eagles take on Irrewarra-Beeac tomorrow.

It has taken the club stalwart 18 years to reach 300 games since making her A-Grade debut in 2007.

Colac district goal umpire Gary Bowen says sharing his milestone game with his grandson will be a special moment.

Bowen will bring up game 400 when he goal umpires the match between Irrewarra-Beeac and Western Eagles today.

Meanwhile, his grandson Noah will run the boundary, after making his umpiring debut for the CDFUA last year.

Residents, road safety experts and emergency services workers are calling on authorities to improve safety at a notorious Birregurra blackspot.

They say they have seen a marked increase in crashes at Conns Lane over the past three years and say action is needed to stop travellers using the road as a connection to the coast.

A community petition calling for “better social housing options for Colac” has garnered hundreds of signatures in less than 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the city’s mayor has repeated calls for a proposed housing development at Pound Road to be integrated throughout the community instead.
