A Barongarook couple’s six-week holiday visiting family and old friends factored in five different dialysis sites in England and Italy.
Bill and Judy Comley spent months planning their trip to London, which included side trips to the English countryside and to Italy, working in dialysis appointments along the way.
Judy said it was the first time she and Bill had travelled since Bill began dialysis, a process which purifies the blood, in 2013.
“Prior to that because our son and grandsons live over in England, we were going over every year to see them, and then when he went on dialysis that was kind of ‘oh what are we going to do now’,” she said.
Judy said the trip took a lot of preparation, organisation and help from dialysis controllers at Geelong and nurses in Colac, but was “absolutely worthwhile”.
Bill and Judy began in London where they met up with their son Joshua, his partner Helen and their children Felix and Finn.
“It’s always lovely having your family, if they’re away from you, showing you their life,” Judy said.
“You just feel so much more connected when they say ‘we went to soccer today’ and you’ve been to the soccer; you can picture everything.”
