Gun South Colac footballer Tim Speirs will make his VFL debut for the North Ballarat Roosters tonight.
Roosters coach Marc Greig confirmed yesterday that a spot had opened up for the 25-year-old, and he would play in the round three clash against reigning premier Footscray under lights at Whitten Oval.
“Speirsy is in the team for his first game tomorrow night versus Footscray,” he said yesterday.
“A few injuries to senior players have opened up an opportunity and the coaches were more than happy to give him a crack at it.
“He will start as a small forward for pressure and might get a run in the midfield at some stage.”
Speirs has been in red-hot form for South Colac this season following a solid pre-season training three nights a week with the Roosters.
He is been in the best players every week for the 2-1 Roos.
Greig said during the pre-season that Speirs had been impressive on the training track, but breaking into the Roosters’ talented midfield group would pose a challenge.
