Irrewarra-Beeac has dominated selection for the Colac district’s under-15 interleague football side for this weekend’s clash against Central Highlands in Colac.
The Bombers make up more than a third of the 23-player team with eight representatives, following by Birregurra and Colac Imperials who have four each.
Irrewarra-Beeac sits first on the under-14.5 ladder and third in under-17.5s.
Alvie, Lorne and Otway Districts have no representatives in the side.
Selectors picked the squad from players involved in Colac’s under-15 development academy, which trains under respected mentor Dan Casey each Sunday.
“There are a fair few kids in that squad as well so the side was fairly tough to pick,” league official Peter Hickey said.
Casey will coach the side, but he also had input from Colac Imperials coach Peter Scott, Irrewarra-Beeac coach Mark Zampatti and Birregurra coach Bruce Fouracre.
Hickey said he hoped the side could bounce back from a big loss to the Central Highlands league at under-14 level last year.
“They smacked us last year in the 14s and this year we’re looking to play a similar group,” he said.
“Hopefully the kids learnt a bit last year, and the knowledge they’ve been imparted with this year will help.”
Sunday’s clash kicks off a Central Reserve at 11.30am, followed by an under-17.5 football clash at 1pm.
The 13-and-under netball starts at 11am, 15-and-under at noon, and 17-and-under at 1pm.
