Friends have raised $20,000 for an Elingamite man’s 21st birthday party after the south-west fires destroyed his home.

A light shower couldn’t dampen the spirits of the Colac City Band yesterday.

The band played a concert at the Lake Colac Foreshore rotunda from 2pm to celebrate 160 years of the Colac Botanic Gardens.

The gardens were established in 1865, with 2025 marking the 160th year since the land overlooking Lake Colac was set aside “at the call of the people”.
