Colac junior footballer Cooper Stephens will make his debut in the under-18 AFL National Championships on Sunday.
Vic Country coach Matt Battistello confirmed yesterday that the 17-year-old would play in the second round of the carnival, when Vic Country travels to face South Australia at Adelaide Oval.
Stephens will train with the team at Windy Hill today before the players fly interstate tomorrow.
He is one of just seven bottom-aged players in the 38-man squad, which selectors are likely to rotate through the team during Vic Country’s four matches.
“We like to give all the bottom-agers a go, but you still have to earn your spot and Cooper’s certainly done that,” Battistello said.
