Alvie has thrown its hat in the ring as a genuine top-three contender after knocking Simpson off the top of Colac district netball.
The Swans put in an inspiring performance on the road, fighting back from a three-goal half-time deficit to run out 29-23 victors and move a game behind the Tigers, who dropped to third after their second loss of the season.
The win was extra sweet for Alvie’s netballers, who celebrated co-captain Dallas Williamson’s 21st birthday on Saturday night.
The Swans take on South Colac this Saturday, which moved to top spot after its win over Colac Imperials, and star defender Williamson said her teammates would use their performance against back-to-back grand finalist Simpson as motivation.
The Roos, Tigers and Otway Districts had only lost one game each to the halfway mark of the 2018 campaign.
“We had close games the first time around against all three of those three teams and were within reach of them,” Williamson said.
“We think we can take it up to any of them when we’re having our best day.
“A win against South would certainly help us to try and get up in to that top three, so we’ll certainly be going with the hope of getting that win and we think we can do it.”
