Champion goalkicker Tom Mullane-Grant has become Otway Districts’ first footballer to take out the Colac district league’s goalkicking award.
The dominant forward wrapped up his three-year stint as the Demons’ coach with three final-quarter goals in the Demons’ 5.0 (30) to 9.9 (63) loss to Birregurra, including a barrel from outside the 50-metre arc, to take his total to 76 for the season.
His impressive season has included three bags of eight goals, and a nine-goal effort against Colac Imperials in round three.
Otway Districts, formed in 1982, have not had a league-leading forward during their 25 seasons in the Colac district league, between ‘82 and ’94, and 2003 until now.
Mullane-Grant finished eight goals ahead of Lorne star Lewie Hollmer, who kicked three goals in the Dolphins’ win against Alvie on Saturday.
Otway Districts’ Zach Hickleton, who co-coached alongside Mullane-Grant this season, said the experienced forward had one of his best games to wrap up the year.
Mullane-Grant has taken on a coaching role with Bright in the Ovens and King Football League for season 2019.
“Tom had a great performance for his last game at the club, he ended up playing up the ground a bit but still managed to kick three in the last,” Hickleton said.
