Cobden netball officials say former Birregurra netballer Jess Wheadon’s return to the court a month after having her first child was integral to the club’s Division one premiership.

The Bombers had two senior teams compete in this year’s Hampden league grand finals; the Nadine McNamara-led Open team lost to Koroit, 32-41, while the Division One side prevailed in a thriller against Port Fairy, 31-29.

The Bombers named Wheadon among their best players in the win, behind best-on-court medallist and Bombers netball co-ordinator Helene Foster.

Former Alvie netballer Morgan Drayton also played in Cobden’s win.

Wheadon had been a key player for the Bombers’ Open team before falling pregnant, and Foster said she had not lost her athleticism after giving birth to son Sebastian.
