Victorian schools title for shooting newcomer

Shooting newcomer Michael Demasi took out the Victorian Clay Target Association’s schoolperson’s shoot just 12 months after taking up the sport.

Inspiration from his older brother has helped Colac student Michael Demasi win a state shooting competition.

Michael, 12, had only been shooting for about 12 months before taking out the Victorian Clay Target Association’s schoolperson’s shoot.

He blitzed the under-15 junior boys’ section to win the medal against more-seasoned campaigners.

The win continues Michael’s rapid rise in the sport, having watched his older brother Daniel Demasi compete in high levels of shooting during the past decade.

“He’s very unassuming, there are a lot of kids there that succumb to the pressure, but Michael just cruises along and gets the job done,” Michael’s father David said.

“He’s only been shooting about 12 months, he’d never really showed a heap of interest until about 12 months ago when he said he wouldn’t mind having a shot,” he said.
