Seven parent-child pairs in cricket contest

Colac West and Birregurra cricketers, from left, John and Micah Robb, Todd and Rani Jamieson, Peter and Archie Hanlon, Jon and Ben Parish, Glen and Flynn Darroch, Jacinta and Ellie Langdon, and Alastair and Oliver Coulson made up six father-son and one mother-daughter combinations during the two clubs’ Division Three match at Deans Marsh on Saturday.

A Colac district lower-grade cricket contest might have been mistaken for an organised family match on the weekend.

Birregurra and Colac West’s Division Three clash at Deans Marsh boasted six father-son combinations and a mother-daughter duo on Saturday.

West’s John and Micah Robb and Todd and Rani Jamieson, and Saints cricketers Peter and Archie Hanlon, Jon and Ben Parish, Glen and Flynn Darroch, Alastair and Oliver Coulson, and Jacinta and Ellie Langdon made up 14 of the 23 cricketers.

But Birregurra’s Peter Hanlon said the family affair wasn’t planned, after the Saints were left searching for cricketers on the eve of the contest.

“It was probably more of a necessity to a degree,” he said.

“We certainly didn’t have four father-son and a mother-daughter on Thursday night after training.

“We had a couple of players drop out from Division One which forced a couple of players up, but it presented an opportunity and it was really
cool.
