New football teammates will become enemies in tomorrow’s Colac district cricket Division One grand final.
The competition’s modern-day powerhouses Stoneyford and Alvie will meet on the big stage for the third time in five years tomorrow.
Stoneyford will be chasing a fifth title in its sixth straight grand final appearance, while the Swans are no strangers to the big stage, competing in seven grand finals over the past 11 years.
And while most rivals would prefer to keep their distance, the majority of players in tomorrow’s clash have been training together during Alvie’s football pre-season.
Stoneyford cricketers Joe Dare, Lincoln Dare and captain Dom Dare have all joined Alvie’s football side over summer, teaming up with Swans players like Parker brothers Zac, Kade and Sam, and captain Andre DeLorenzo.
“I think they’ve been trying to tackle us Stoney boys a bit harder at training, and we’ve probably been trying to tackle them a bit harder,” Dom Dare said with a laugh.
“There has been a bit of banter, but they’re a great bunch of blokes at Alvie, the game will definitely be played in good spirits,” he said.
Dare said the competitiveness of the Stoneyford side had led to its prolonged success in Colac district cricket.
